KN Deep Plate Gray Clay

Dutch designer Kirstie van Noort began her design process with research into raw materials. During her visit to the quarries of Arita, she discovered that the porcelain stone used there is exceptionally pure, containing almost no impurities—and that any raw material with higher impurity content is typically discarded.

Intrigued by this, she focused on these imperfect stones, developing a new type of clay that reveals the naturally nuanced and beautiful tones created by nature itself.

Her collection consists of two series, each defined by simple forms designed to emphasize the unique colors and textures of the material.

[ Notes ]

This series is based on the concept of exploring the natural colors created by raw materials and by-products generated during the purification of clay. Because the materials are sourced from different veins of porcelain stone, slight variations in composition may occur, resulting in individual differences in color tone, texture, or glaze appearance in each firing. You may also notice tiny iron specks or pinholes, which are part of the natural character of the material.
